Sable-Lite Brushes
To say that brushing water-based wood finishes can be a finicky exercise would be putting the entire experience into polite words. I have tried foam brushes, polyester, nylon, Chinex(TM), Tynex(TM) and anything else I could think of. None of these helped in the low handling of water-based clear coats.
Jeff Weiss at Target has come up with a brush that really works with water-based clear coats and I even had success using this brush with a fast drying solvent-based two-part varnish. This new fiber allows water-based finishes to flow on easily because of its low volume of bristles and the "sable-like" quality of its fiber structure. The very thin gold Taklon(TM) bristle holds very little finish; therefore, the varnish being applied can flow onto the surface with more control. The low body volume (bristle count) prevents excess air to be pumped into the finish during repetitive strokes of the brush. The extra-thin fiber prevents over-agitation of the product being applied.

Jeff calls this brush Sable-Lite due to its "sable-like feel, look and handling."
